Spring Flooding 2011

Because of flooding, we've had a pond for a front yard the past week.
It's always interesting to see and watch  the different wildlife that moves in:

Two geese had been paddling around out on the water for a while then decided to roam around the yard to eat. They were here for almost two hours until they were frightened off.

A great blue heron fishing along the road at the end of our driveway.
The yellow flowers are the tops of tall weeds that grow on the land.
The piece of land that the flowers are growing on is lower than road level by a few feet.
Yes, the water is getting close to the edge of the road !

An egret found a nice spot to go fishing in the yard.

The "duck goose" hybrid (?) that showed up here last year is back.
I don't really know what it is, perhaps a cross between a Canadian goose and a white goose ?
It is the oddest bird, with a funny little walk and look.

The normal creek is behind the duck,  but because of the flooding it has come up and over the banks into our field. It is 8 feet above flood stage, nothing compared to what is going on south of us.

There are lots of tiny little fish swimming about.
It isn't surprising to hear a large flop every now and then from a much bigger fish
that finds its way in from the creek. This might be a large carp that is floundering about
in the shallows. I hope it manages to find its way back to deep water before it starts falling.
The receding flood waters always leave a stinky mess as it is, I don't want a rotting fish carcass out there, too.

This is a moderate flood, not uncommon to see this once a year.

The last time we had a major flood was in June of 2008.

Beautiful wildlife pictures, but I'm sorry to hear about your front yard. I hope all is well now.

THANK YOU for taking the time to leave your comments. I hope I've inspired you to get a bit crafty today ;)
