HI Daughter/Son Cards

Two from a set of four cards I made to donate to Operation Write Home.
There are cards for Daughter as well as Son.
I thought these might work well for the preteen age group.

The die cut HI portion was store bought, part of a set of
die cut greeting card pieces from
Me and My Big Ideas.

There were six different sets of five die cut pieces in the package.
I'll be sharing the rest of the cards I made over the next few days.

SUPPLIES:
Decorative papers, Die Cuts With A View paper stack.
Black textured card stock layered underneath the die cut openings.
Card stock scraps,
Daughter and Son stamps , Stampin' Up!
Hand cut banner/flag.
Flower punches, Stampin' Up!
Brad, unknown.

Thanks for looking =)

St. Patrick's Day

I'm enjoying my once a year lunch of corned beef and cabbage
with soda bread while the family is at work :)
None of them like the taste - or smell - of corned beef and cabbage so
I always make while they are gone and preferably on a warm
day so I can open up the house.
This year St. Patrick's Day is cold, cloudy and windy,
but it was sunny and 83 yesterday so I cooked it a day early.
I made enough to share with my parents, too.

Crock pot (slow cooker) corned beef and cabbage, so easy !
I toss my corned beef that has been covered with the seasonings that come in the package into the crock pot with a few cups of water (I use a 6 qt slow cooker and buy a 2-3 pound brisket). Some people add carrots and potatoes as well. I cook it on low for 8 hours total, adding the cabbage in 90 minutes before I'm ready to serve it. It always comes out tender and moist !

The Irish Soda Bread I made , a different recipe I tried this year:

I've updated my leprechaun face card post
to include some how to photos!

Baby Girl 1st Birthday Card

Various supplies from different companies came together
to make this cute First Birthday card.

If it weren't for creating my own stamp with a
Just Write Stampers, the card would have been a pretty
quick one to make. Working with those teeny, tiny
alphabet letters is tricky, time consuming.

Cuttlebug embossing folder
Nestabilities dies
Alphabet die (1) from Stampin'Up!
White and pink card stocks
Decorative paper, Die Cuts With A View paper stack
Polka dot ribbon, unknown
Dimensionals
Black ink
Just Rite Stamper alphabet and stamper

Biplane Card - sketch challenge

This is the second set of cards I made using sketch challenge #250
at Operation Write Home as my inspiration.
See my first using a train image and browns set posted yesterday.

I omitted the two smaller circles/embellishments since my background
on this card was so busy already.

Stamp images are from Hero Arts and
embossing folder is from Sizzix/Tim Holtz.

The twill background stamp on the hand cut banner is from Stampin' Up!

Various shades of gray card stock and inks.

Handmade cloud stencil and sponge to ink over for the sky.

Nestabilities circle dies.

1/4"circle punch, silver card stock an Crystal Effects to make the faux brad.

OWH Sketch Challenge 250 - train card

Sketch Challenge #250  was posted today at Operation Write Home-
along with a link to the pdf file containing all 250 sketches to date !

This card came together quickly,
so I whipped up four of them
to donate to Operation Write Home.

I've been working on cards for Operation Write Home
the past couple of weeks as time allows.
I started to fill a box last year, then life/other projects
got in the way and I never finished filling it.
I'm determined to get it done - sooner rather than later!
No, it isn't necessary to send an entire box full of cards
at one time. Any amount at any time is fine, but I like
to put as many as I am able to in one shipment.
I'm slowly getting there !

I'll be sharing lots of cards I have made over the next month or so.

SUPPLIES:
Kraft, Vanilla and Espresso textured card stocks
Espresso ink
Hero Arts AC007 Past Times stamp set
Sizzix Tim Holtz embossing folder
Nestabilities circle dies
1/4"circle punch, gold card stock and Crystal Effects to
create faux brads

I left this card blank so it could be used for any number óf reasons.

There is a biplane stamp image in this set and
an airmail themed embossing folder that I will use to
make another set of four cards with this sketch.
Maybe I'll follow the sketch more closely on that one ;)
I'll share them tomorrow.

Thanks for looking !

Be sure to check out the challenge page to
see the lovely inspiration card as well as
the InLinkz to the fantastic challenge participants cards.
The challenge is permanently open, make a card and share it !

Sympathy card - masculine

Nontraditional sympathy card for the family of a man that was a farmer.

This is a 5" x 7" card.

Image is from the long retired stamp set Times and Seasons by Stampin' Up! and water colored with ink pads/aqua painter.

Scratch (not sure of exact name) background stamp, Stampin' Up!

Ink sponged along the edges of the card base.

Yellow paper came from the divider page inside of a spiral bound notebook.

Green mulberry paper is actually a piece of gift wrap.

Ribbon, unknown scrap that was in a grab bag I bought at a yard sale several years ago.

Cupcake Border Punch Card

This simple, cute birthday card uses part of a gift bag
for the background paper ! Seriously !

My daughter bought something from a store at the mall
and they gave her a glossy coated, pink striped gift bag
that had pink ribbon handles.
I never even knew she had it until I saw it in the trash
(a true recycling project!!!).
It was slightly crumpled, but parts were still useful.
I trimmed out the smoothest portions of the bag to
use on something, someday and the ribbon handles
were detached, stuck in with my ribbon scraps.

Over a year later I finally put a piece of that salvaged paper to use !

The tag is created from a tag topper punch that Stampin' Up! sold.

The rubber stamp is also from Stampin' Up!
It says "Happy Birthday" in that same quirky style inside the card.

I found the cupcake border paper punch at a yard sale for $2.

The black layers are created by running a wide, chisel point
permanent black marker along the edges of the papers.

Organdy ribbon scraps.

I had enough scraps to make a few more of these to donate to
Operation Write Home!

Sentiments Challenge at OWH

at Operation Write Home is
SENTIMENTS:
make cards using a sentiment as the main focus on the card.

Each month that they reach the goal of 50 entries,
Our Daily Bread Designs donates up to two boxes of free shipping for our heroes:
1 box for 25 cards posted and 2 boxes for 50 cards posted.

I don't have many sentiment rubber stamp images
that seemed large enough to fill the front of a card,
so I made my own !

I used Photoshop Elements and a couple of fonts
to type in this quote I found online.

I printed it out on white striped paper,
ran a chisel point black Sharpie marker along the edge,
and hot glued on two textured card stock paper punched hearts.

I sponged a burgundy ink along the edges
of the hearts then slightly bent the edges backward
to give them a bit of puffy dimension.

I had tied a piece of bakers twine into a tiny bow
and was going to glue it to the hearts,
then decided against it. It just didn't look quite right to me,
plus I had the thought that it may not hold up well
if the card gets shuffled around much by our heroes
as they are looking for the perfect card. I wouldn't want
the twine to fray or potentially pop off since it would
have such a small amount of glue (under the knot)
holding it on.

Attempting to show the dimension I created

Please join the Sentiments challenge at
Operation Write Home !
THANKS FOR LOOKING  =)
Edited: I decided to go ahead and add the bow to one of the
four cards I made. I added Fray Check to the ends to help keep them
from fraying then attached it with clear Tacky glue,
hoping that will keep the knot in place, too.
