Organdy Box Bags With Chipboard Ornaments

I whipped up three of these to give chocolates in.
I didn't get a photo of the third, a different shape :(

The chipboard ornaments were made with old items
from Stampin' Up!, glitter glue, ribbon,
a snowflake border punch and scoring board.
The organdy box bags were bought at a dollar store years ago.

Thanks for looking =)

Simple Die Cut Felt Ornaments

I bought a container of die cut felt pieces quite some time ago and never really knew what to do with them. They have a brass eyelet in the centers of them.

This year I dug them out and had the thought to turn them into these simple ornaments (in addition to some Christmas cards I shared previously).

I hot glued two of them together then added a piece of thin twine run through a button,  hot glued to the center over a scrap of fabric. Hot glued another looped piece of twine to the back for a hanger = a dozen of them done!

I thought about adding other things to them to dress them up even more, but in the end decided to keep them super simple. Maybe I will adhere a piece of card stock to the back to cover up the eyelet backs anyway since I didn't think to flip them over, having the nice front of the eyelet showing on the back side to make it more finished. Doing that can also allow them to be written on, making them a sort of gift tag. Maybe next year. For now they are sitting in my completed crafts boxes since I got them done too late to do anything with this year.

Thanks for looking =)

Merry Orange and Cinnamon Stick Ornament

Merry Christmas Eve !

Today's share is a simple dried orange and cinnamon stick ornament.
Yes, another old time-y project !

I die cut the word "merry" and glued it on top of the
orange slice. I wrapped a fabric scrap around the cinnamon stick
and tied it into a simple bow, hot gluing it to the orange slice.
Twine is hot glued to the back for a hanger.

The most difficult part was drying the orange slice myself:
it didn't work very well for me in a toaster over.
I actually sliced an entire orange and tried to dry
all of the slices. Unfortunately, all but this one burned,
and even this one is too brown in places.
I suppose even on the lowest setting it was
still too hot in that tiny oven. I did dry them
directly on the wire racks, too,
checking on them throughout the day
and moving them around as needed.
It was the first time I've tried to dry orange slices.
Probably my last ;)

It looks like parts of the country are going
to see a White Christmas this year.
We will not.
In fact, thunderstorms and
Spring like temperatures are on the way!

Thanks for looking .
Wishing you a wonderful holiday
filled with memories to last a lifetime.

Noel Twig Bow Ornaments

There are a few old twig bow home decor pieces that were
picked up at a church fundraiser yard sale a few years back.
I forgot all about them and came across them
when looking for something else.

It took a bit of work to remove the remaining
buttons, fabric pieces and large clumps of glue
from them before I could redecorate them.

Once they were cleaned up well enough,
Christmas colors plaid cotton fabric strips
that were torn and tied into knot were hot glued on.

I painted wooden hearts and
hot glued them on top of the knotted fabric strips.

A die cut word "noel" topped them off.

I think they look a bit better now,
even if they are 80's type decor pieces.

The before bows are below,
they weren't in the best of shape.

Cardinal Glass Ball/Painted Acetate Ornament

I made two of my painted acetate ornaments
with the intentions of giving them to my
cousins who just lost their Mom.

The image is from Stampin' Up!
It was stamped with black Stazon ink
onto a transparency sheet.

It was cut out into a circle.
with a tab at the top to hold it in place,
to fit just inside a glass ball ornament.

I painted it with indoor/outdoor
acrylic craft paints.

After allowing it to dry well for a day,
I carefully rolled it and inserted it
into the glass ornament, keeping the
tab in the neck of the ornament.

I printed a saying onto white card stock,
cut it into a banner and attached it
with a gold eyelet
"If a cardinal should appear,
a visitor from Heaven is near."

A red grosgrain ribbon bow
hot glued into place finishes it off.

Thanks for looking   =)

Pieced Felt Polar Bear Ornaments

Two too cute polar bear ornaments
made from tiny pieces of felt,
cut and hand stitched together.

The wee little Christmas trees on this sweater are stitched

Even the facial details are stitched on each bear

Oh my gosh,  I thought the beaded felt ornaments I shared previously took a long time to make and were difficult to see well. I worked on these two cuties for days ! Such small pieces and teeny tiny stitches to assemble them. I even skipped some of the beading details to save some time. So much work love went into these !

I hope my kids appreciate them one day :)

They were made with another unused kit I found at the same yard sale as the beaded felt snowflake ornament set and was dated 1987.

Anyone remember the days of price tags,
before there were bar codes to scan ?
Also, check out what I believe to be
the original price of just $1.44 on this kit !

Wood and Fabric Ornaments

Four old fabric scrap and woodsies ornament kits
that I finally, after all these years, made !
I really don't know why I never made them before.
I suppose because I moved away from general crafts to
all things paper crafting years ago.
Plus, at the time I had two little kids.
that kept me busy, not as much time to craft.
I still have quite a little stash of Christmas crafts to make one day.....

The bases of these ornaments are nothing more than
a wood bead, a wood spool and a popsicle stick.
I didn't think to take a photo of that part
before assembling them.

Various scraps of fabric, and other embellishments
finish them off.

Beaded Felt Ornaments

\

I hate to admit it, but I have had this ornament kit for several years !
I found it at a yard sale and never took the time to make them.
Apparently the person that originally bought them didn't get around to making them either:
there was a price sticker on it, clearanced out to 50c in 1987!

I finally did make them this year. It's the first time I've done such a stitchery/beading project. They took a lot of patience and time. I'm guessing close to 12 hours total !!!!

As I was working on them, I was thinking to myself it would have been nice to have made them a few years back when I first bought them - and had better eyesight ;) My trifocals do not work for close up work, so I made them without wearing glasses.

I added the ribbon bow and hanger. I think I'm going to make a tiny tag with the year 2018 on it and maybe add a tiny jingle bell, too.  I know I have jingle bells somewhere. Things are a bit difficult to find sometimes since I've moved my crafty space so many times this past year and will be doing so again at years end.

I hope one day my kids will want these ornaments ...........

Ribbon Wreath Curtain Ring Ornament

Simple repurposing of items ornament !
Ribbon scraps, rubber stamped mini tag and baker's twine
were all that I used on this old curtain ring to give it a new life.

I'm entering my project in the new challenge blog for all things Christmas,

Thanks for looking =)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

PROJECT DETAILS:

This is a quick and easy craft to use up ribbon scraps. I used a curtain ring that was in a grab bag of miscellaneous craft supplies from a church yard sale as my base. A tiny embroidery hoop, mason jar lid ring even a circle cut from foam core would work, nearly anything that is "donut shaped" to tie ribbon or fabric scraps around.

I started by base coating the wood curtain ring with acrylic craft paint
that coordinated with the ribbons I was using.

I chose several types of color coordinated ribbons for my project, but you can use the same type for all of your ribbon or fabric scraps. I cut one piece to determine the length that I needed first, then cut many more nearly the same size. I wanted some to be a tiny bit longer or shorter, so I adjusted the cut ribbon length. You can also make them all the same length for a more uniform look.
Fold the ribbon in half. Lay the ring on top with the loop outside of the ring  and the tails on the inside. Pull the tails up and over the ring towards the outside, tucking them through the looped portion. Pull snugly. I used a tiny bit of hot glue to hold them in place. Continue doing this until the ring is covered to your liking.

Add whatever embellishments you like, if you wish. I kept this one simple: just a tag and baker's twine.
That's all there is to it, simple enough for a child to do !

Cross Stitch Mason Jar Lid Ornament - TUTORIAL

I know this looks odd seeing a Christmas project
being shared now, the day before Halloween.
It's not much different than seeing all of the
Christmas trees and such on display in stores -
right next to Halloween decor ;)

Why a Christmas project in the middle of Halloween cards ?
I'm sharing it as my final Design Team project
for
an anything crafty goes challenge.
NOTE: all supplies used on my project are my own,
no images were supplied by the sponsor this week

This small cross stitch piece fit fairly well inside the
ring to a large mouth mason jar to make an ornament.
A little paint, stain and embellishments to finish it off.

EDITED TO ADD  11/5/2018
My ornament was a winner at

craftysahmiam.blogspot.com

PROJECT DETAILS:
Cross Stitch Mason Jar Lid Ornament Supplies:
Small cross stitch piece to fit opening of mason jar ring
(or whatever you wish to frame for the ornament)
Polyfil or quilt batting (optional if using a fabric item)
Chipboard
Heavy duty double stick tape
Low temp hot glue
Embellishments as desired. My project uses a thin twine, twill ribbon, wood snowflake, hand stamped and cut banner, snippet of orange card stock for a carrot nose
Pencil and scissors

Paint your mason jar ring if you would like. I used a white acrylic craft paint then added an antiquing medium over that. I also sanded it a bit for a slightly distressed look. Let it dry thoroughly before continuing the project.

Find a small image to fit inside the ring. There are so many things that you can frame, not just small cross stitch pieces. Something as simple as a photograph will work ! The ideas are endless.

Depending on what you choose to frame, you may not want to use batting. I like to use a polyfil stuffing type material if I am framing a fabric piece, but it is not necessary.

If you do want to use a batting material, cut it to fit inside the ring. You will also need to cut a piece of chipboard a smidge smaller than the ring. It needs to fit inside the ridges of the screw-on part of the lid and have a tiny bit of room for the edges of the fabric to fit. I traced my lid onto the lightweight chipboard then cut it slightly smaller using scissors. Test fit and trim as needed.

Cut another chipboard to use as a cover to finish the back of the ornament off when you are done. Test the fit of the chipboard pieces before proceeding, trimming if necessary to make them fit well.

Trim your fabric about 1 1/2"  larger all around than the chipboard circle. You want to leave enough fabric to be able to pull it over the polyfil then around to the back side so you can glue it in place.

Layer the batting / polyfil stuffing material between the cross stitch piece and chipboard circle.

Carefully pull the edges around the chipboard and batting, working on opposite sides all the way around. For example, start at 12 o'clock, then 6 o'clock, 9 o'clock then 3 o'clock. Be sure to check the front after the initial adhering of the four points. Place it inside the ring to make sure it is centered.  Remove it from the ring then you'll then do the same thing, working in between those four starting points until all of the edges are pulled around and glued in place.

I used a heavy duty double stick tape to hold the edges of the fabric in place while I was working, then I added a little bit of hot glue once it was done. Don't worry about the unfinished look, you will cover it with another piece of chipboard.

Push the completed fabric piece all the way in to the ring. If you used batting like I prefer to do when making this type of ornament with fabric items, it will make it puff out slightly from the frame. Hot glue in place.

Make it puffier by adding extra polyfil . You may need to make the fabric circle larger so there is more to "give" if necessary as well as to pull around to the back. Don't pull it really tight when gluing the edges of the fabric to the back either, this will smash the polyfil down.
If adding quite a bit of stuffing to make it puffier, keep it centered in the fabric piece. You don't want too much at the edges where it needs to fit in the frame

Choose your embellishments to finish your piece. I've already tied a thin twine around the ring, adding an extra loop for hanging from the Christmas tree in this photo. You will also see my teeny tiny card stock carrot nose for the snowman, a twill tape ribbon bow, a wooden laser cut snowflake, hand stamped and cut banner and the final chipboard piece to cover the back. You might like to cover this piece of chipboard with decorative paper. I chose not to so I could hand write on the back of my ornament.

Use your favorite all purpose heavy duty adhesive to attach the embellishments. I used low temp hot melt glue for everything other than the teeny tiny nose and card stock banner. I used a toothpick dipped in Tacky Glue to stick them in place.

Cross Stitch Ornaments

Earlier this year we went to a church fundraiser yard sale.
I bought a grab bag of various crafty items,
most of which I could not use so I donated them.
However, there were some things I could work with.
These little cross stitch pieces were unfinished,
part of a mini treat bag kit.
I decided to turn them into ornaments instead of
finishing off the mini treat bags.

I cut some quick stik mounting board to fit the images.

I ran heavy duty double stick tape around the edges of the back,
pulling the fabric around and adhering in place.
I added little dabs of hot glue to the corners to hold them well.

A little trim was hot glued in place, gold cord hangers
then white chipboard cut to fit and glued over it all
to finish it off.

I'm entering my project in the current
Animals challenge at Use Your Stuff
since there is a bear on one:)
