Spinart Cards

Cleaning out some stuff from the kids, I came across these old spin arts they made
during a fun day at elementary school.

I cut them in half and attached them to black card stock then a white card stock base for
a fun blank card that could be used for just about anyone of any age. They were donated
to Operation Write Home.

Repurposed Bits Cards

The floral images on the above two cards were leftovers
from a sort of home made decorative background paper.

I stamped an entire piece of card stock,
then attached images to it for a promotional
item many years ago. There were a few pages
made like this. I kept them, knowing one day I
could reuse parts of the stamped card stock .

I made the above cards to donate to
Operation Write Home.

The yellow background paper with spiral edge
is actually a piece from inside a notebook !
It was a divider between the sections of ruled paper.
Uh, yeah, I do tend to save far too many things
thinking that I'll use them one day ;)

The ribbon and twin are old scraps from
other projects over the years.

The "putty" colored card stock is from
I'm not sure where. It is an odd color though.
I lined the cards with cream card stock.

Thanks for looking =)

Neon Pink Flowers Cards

I've had neon card stock for years
(bought at our local Big Lots store).
Last year I bought neon ribbon on clearance,
some of which coordinated well with some of the card stock.
However I didn't have neon inks, so I used neon colored
acrylic craft paint on foam stamps !

The butterflies are punches and stamp images from Stampin' Up!
I only glued down the centers of them so the wings "float" just above
the card front for a little dimension.

This set of cards was donated to Operation Write Home.

Thanks for looking.

Neon Blocks Cards

I was on a neon colors card making kick.

I've had the card stock for a long time,

I bought neon colored ribbon on clearance last year
and intended on using it on the cards -
in the end only some of them had ribbon applied.

This is a great way to use up scraps of any color/design on cards.

Blocks of neon card stock scraps glued to textured black card stock base.

"Hey there!" is a rubber stamp and coordinating die from Stampin' Up!

Birthday rubber stamp image is from Stampin' Up! and
colored with markers.

Donated to Operation Write Home.

Faux B&W Photo Thunderbird

Seeing the new sketch challenge at
and a request by a fellow
House of Cards DT member
to help fill the entries at the
I knew I had to make one of my
faux black and white photo
rubber stamped cards.

This stamp set is one of my all time favorites,
having been used far more than any of my others.
Making "faux black and white photos" with it
has been one of my favorite stamping techniques.

Stamp your image onto glossy white card stock
with a permanent black ink (or brown if you'd like to
make a sepia colored photo, see my sample here).

Use a white crayon to color in areas of your image
you'd like to remain white.

Removable sticky notes work well to mask of the edges
of the "photo" before you start inking.

Mask other areas if necessary, such as teh sky or ground.

Sponge various shades of gray ink over the image
(or use browns if you want a sepia image).

Gently wipe the finished image with a tissue to remove ink
and crayon. It's always fun to see the results !

Remove sticky notes.
You can leave it as is or have fun distressing it
to make it look like a well loved old photo

Stamp images long ago retired from Stampin' Up!:
Classic Convertibles (Thunderbird)
Antique Autos (Route 66 sign)
Highways and Byways (background stamp)

Give my technique a try and share a link to your results in the comments below.

Neon Green Checkerboard Cards

I bought some neon colored ribbon on clearance from Target a year ago and am finally using some.
I never was a fan of neon back in the 80's and was kind of surprised to see that it made a brief comeback. . . .

I bought neon colored craft paints to use as my ink for old foam craft stamps in my stash since I didn't have any ink to match. I was going for a retro 80's graphics feel, hoping they might make good teen / preteen boy cards.

The sentiment stamp is from Just Rite Stampers.

This is one of several different sets of cards I made using the neon paints and ribbon.

Donated to Operation Write Home.

Floral Sticker Card 4

The final card I made with a set of small floral stickers that were in a grab bag
of goodies I bought from a flea market earlier this year. I trimmed the wording off because it was too tiny to read easily. I meant to put a dark layer between the white background and the embossed piece............. oops! The double stick tape stuck too well as soon as I started laying it on, hadn't even pressed it into place and it was stuck. There was no way I was going to remove it without damaging the card front. I thought about using an ultra thin fine point marker and straight edge to go around on the white. There is plenty of room to do that since the cream piece was trimmed small enough for that other layer. Sure as I try it, I'll ruin the card so I'll leave it alone ;)

Thanks for looking!

Floral Sticker Card 3

Third card I made and donated to Operation Write Home using a sheet of stickers that were in a grab bag I bought at a flea market earlier this year. I did trim the words from around the floral images, I thought they were far too tiny. I added a hand stamped sentiment to the front of this card (stamp image from Stampin' Up!, no longer available).

Thanks for looking =)

Floral Sticker Card 1

This is a card that I donated to Operation Write Home. The floral image is a sticker. I bought a grab bag of goodies from a flea market earlier this year that contained lots of stickers. I don't use stickers, so I challenged myself to come up with a few cards with some of them (I'll share others I created the next couple of days). The color palette is very similar to the one chosen for the current challenge at House Of Cards.

Be inspired by the colors or use a food image for your card
and share it with us before the challenge closes on July 31st.

Thanks for looking =)

Three hundred and twenty one - my total count of cards sent in my final box donated to Operation Write Home last week. I just received confirmation of my package being received on Saturday.

I couldn't stuff another card in the large priority mail box, it was overfilled. I would like to have kept making cards for another couple of weeks, but unless I send in another small package, there was just no room. I see the latest challenges posted at OWH and have to stop myself from making a card ;) Thanks again to everyone that has helped in one way or the other over the years at Operation Write Home!

Flood Update

The waters finally started receding only to pop back up, though thankfully not as high.

Above are two fawns making their way across the inches of freshly deposited mud
out in our front yard/field. The creek that backs up from the river and floods our field,
turning it into a lake, is where the tree line is.

I'd been seeing an egret hanging out front almost every day,
I wondered if it was the same one.
It is just under the tree line, to the right, in this photo.
At the highest crest this flood season,
it was 8"over the road where that truck is in this photo.
I'd guess the water was about 5 feet deep out there.

This is what it looks like today after a dramatic fall
over the past twenty four hours. It won't last long,
NOAA is forecasting another two foot rise over the next two days.
It has been nearly one month now of flooding in our area..........
I really can't complain, it has only been an inconvenience
and does make for some fun wildlife watching.
Many others have lost so much, though.

Look closely at the photo and you can see how much of the grass
has been killed off along the hillside from being under water so long.
The water was up over that road about 8", causing the road to be closed
for nearly one week. The water didn't stay that high long enough to
kill off more of the grass. The field/yard is another story though.......
On the bright side, less time spent mowing this summer !

Thanks for visiting :)

I'll have some digi scrap projects to share
over the next two days
as part of my CT duties for JMC Designs,

Neon Orange Thank You Cards

One of several sets of neon cards I made for
(yeah, I know, neon is so 2014! or was it 2013?
definitely the 1980's ).

I had the best intentions of using the neon ribbon I found on clearance
last year on these neon cards I've been making,
but most of them don't have any ribbon on them !
That's okay, it makes them more mail friendly.

Neon acrylic craft paint on foam rubber stamps
for the background images.

Permanent black ink on vellum for the sentiment.

Thanks for looking =)
