Dog Collar Bandannas

I spent the day yesterday making some basic
dog collar bandannas for my fur grandpup.
I have so many fabric scraps, I could make lots more
if they work and the pup parents would like more!

Some are reversible with two different prints,
leftovers from my bowl cozy making days.

This was the first time I've used my sewing machine
since making face masks back at the beginning of the
pandemic in early 2020. It was fun to sew again
even though my skills leave a lot to be desired ;)
I also had a new helper this year.
This was the first time the barn cat now house cat
saw me working with fabric and he couldn't
stay off of it. Every. Single. Piece.
Silly boy.

Thanks for looking =)

Yet Another Dog Sympathy Card

I made this card and mailed it out in late October.
I now know that it was received, so I'm sharing.

I no sooner got the last dog sympathy card made
and sent off when I found out another friend
lost her dog. What a year.

All supplies used came from Stampin' Up!,
most are now retired.

Bow Wow, Bella and Friends
& So Sorry stamp sets

 The dog was water colored
and hand cut out then
attached with dimensionals.

White heat embossed words on
black card stock and mounted
onto a scrap of chipboard for dimension.
Chipboard is not as thick as foam dimensionals
(also known as pop dots), so it gives it just
enough height, but not as much as the dog.

Thanks for looking.

this year, for both people and pets :(

Supplies:

metal edge tag
paper punches to create the paw print
polka dot grosgrain ribbon
white, textured black and red card stocks

One Down...

and oh so many more to go!

This is the first pet scrapbook page done
for one of the five pet scrapbook albums
I have planned.

Not all of the pages are going to be "scrapped",

many will simply be photos slid into pockets
with journal cards.

Rubber stamp images from Technique Tuesday
and an old metal rim tag.
I water colored the image with ink from
an ink pad and an aquapainter.

Paw print from Meow Meow by Stampin' Up!
and another old metal rim tag

Old bubble letters and a numerals stamp set, unknown

Inks and card stocks, Stampin' Up!

Patterned papers, CR Gibson (part of a
bundle I bought at Big Lots years ago).
It's the only cat themed paper I have
and I'm not really a fan of it.
I guess I liked it better when I bought
it way back when ;)

The layout is a simplified version of a Page Maps sketch.

Photo Banner Frame

Today I'm sharing with you my project for the
March Anything Goes crafty project for the

I repurposed an old wooden frame
by using a banner kit to create a
fun way to display photos of my cat!
Timely project, too, since April 11th
was National Pet Day in the USA :)

Cute enough as wall art without photos!

Once I decided the order I wanted the pieces in,
I strung them with the linen thread.

There are any number of ways you can attach
the threaded pieces to the frame:
I chose to use hot glue.

My photos are 4x6 so they overwhelm the fun
elements of the banners. I need to resize and reprint them.

Packaging photo of completed kit as suggested.
I did not use the "pom poms".

Kitty's Memory Box - Fall side

The Fall side of Kitty's memory box / urn.
Click here to see the Summer side and
the Spring side. Winter will be shared soon.

I started with a paper mache craft box found at a thrift shop.

I wrapped gray satin ribbon around the top edge.

I used a Fiskars shape cutter and template
to cut out the leaf shape from Early Espresso textured card stock.

I used my sewing machine to add real stitching along the edges of the card stock.
I then distressed the edges and layered it over green mulberry paper.

I snippet of ribbon and twine are glued above
a metal heart charm. I will add a tiny paw print
to the heart once I find the stamp set it is in.
I have yet to reorganize all of them after moving
them up to the new craft room from the craft dungeon basement.
I've no idea where particular sets are still !
I'm still getting used to everything being out of place
after having worked out of the basement for years,
knowing exactly where everything was down there.

Kitty's Memory Box - Summer side

The Summer side of Kitty's memory box / urn.

The base is a paper mache craft box.

Background paper was found at a discount store
years ago. It is leftover from the box I made for Mulligan cat.

The paper flowers were gifted to me, manufacturer unknown.

The polka dot brad was from Stampin' Up !

I cut up a plastic scrapbook page protector and wrapped it around
the photograph, gluing it into place with double stick tape.

Gray satin ribbon wrapped around the box lid.
I should have stamped it with paw prints !
I'll take it apart and do it.

Thanks for looking :)

Kitty's Memory Box - Spring

Kitty's Memory Box is finally done and I'm happy to share it with you today, National Scrapbook Day !

I confess, it's not totally complete because I still need to finish the very top. It took me a while to get around to making it, so many things going on since her passing. Plus my craft dungeon was on the move to higher "ground", crafty things had been in disarray.  I also just didn't feel up to working on it........

I've made one of these Memory Boxes (they also serve as urns for those that we had cremated, like Kitty) for each of our pets. I make each side seasonal and turn them as the seasons change. They are on display in my living room.

Today I am sharing details on the Spring side.

Supplies:

  • Mache' kraft box (found at a resale shop!)
  • Melon Mambo card stock and matching ribbon from Stampin' Up!
  • Pool Party button and card stock, Stampin' Up!
  • White twine, Stampin' Up!
  • Miss Kitty tag - unknown (I built this side around the tag I have had in my stash for quite some time)
  • Crystal Effects - used on the heart printed on the tag
  • Paw prints texture plate by Fiskars
  • Scallop edge border punch
  • Stampin' dimensionals and adhesives
  • Clear sleeve for scrapbooking, trimmed down to cover my photograph
  • Metal tag
  • Going Gray card stock for name plate
  • Miniature alphabet stamp set for name
  • Black embossing powder for name
  • Gray satin ribbon

Thanks for looking :)  I'll be sharing the Summer, Fall and Winter sides over the next week.

And Then There Was One...

Cat that is.

Sadly I had to say goodbye to my 16 1/2 year old Kitty yesterday. It was not a good day for numerous reasons, but the worst being that Kitty had a stroke. I was heartbroken at making that decision at the vet's office to let her go over the Rainbow Bridge.........

It never even crossed my mind, not once the entire day until Mom mentioned it to me today, that yesterday was Friday the 13th. No wonder so many things went wrong yesterday!

Now I am down to one cat, Hyla, the menace. Will I get another ? NO ! Hyla does a fine job of catching all sorts of critters (why I brought her home two years ago in the first place) . I'm hoping that she will get a bit nicer, be more mellow as she gets older.

National Scrapbook Month Ideas

Edited to add: somehow over the last few months I got it in my mind that I was to write a "featured designer" challenge for a blog I create for.  Since it was already written and was relevant to this month, I am sharing it although it won't be used on the other blog.

May is National Scrapbook Month, my challenge to you is to make a creative way to display a favorite photo(s) !

The ideas are limitless, from displaying photos with special magnets on refrigerators to creating traditional  (or digital) scrapbook pages

and calendars

Created with my photos at Shutterfly.com

Computer desktop wallpaper calender
that I created with My Memories Suite

to handmade frames

An old frame I brought new life to with paint and scrapbooking supplies

and exploding scrapbooks in a box

Link to just one I've made over the years, the first one! http://craftysahmiam.blogspot.com/2010/05/explosion-box-scrapbook-in-box-i-know.html    TUTORIAL

or store bought specialty items

Buy premade paper mache items to decorate with photos.
These are memory boxes for my pets that have passed
(the dog box contains her ashes, so it a memory box urn).
I decorated each side seasonally and rotate then throughout the year.
If you are unable to find boxes, here is a link to one I made from scratch

even repurposed items

Simple piece of driftwood with twine wrapped around it
to hold a photograph of the sun setting along the river

Binder clips !
These can be decorated with scrapbook papers
and other embellishments for a cute, simple
way to display photos (or hold recipe cards!).

Chipboard from paper packaging (or cereal boxes), scrapbook paper,
wooden dowel rods, ribbon scraps, an empty container =
flower garden of love!

The base is an empty ribbon spool

These are just some of the things I've done to display photographs, there are more posted to the blog. I've so many other ideas I'd like to try (I have a huge old window I want to repurpose into a frame someday!) and certainly plenty of photos to use, but I've run out of space to display them !

Thanks for looking =)
