WTF? Birthday Card

The first of my cousins is turning Fifty this month.

I made a special card for her mother to give her

(I'll share that one later) and a different one from myself.

I hope that she likes the card(s) I made her !

They are beautiful just like she is, both inside and out,

and this card has a sense of humor to it. 

Maybe it will bring a smile to her face :)

All supplies used were from Stampin'Up!,

though most are no longer available. 

The card base is a premade die cut circle that

they used to sell along with matching 

dark brown square envelopes.

Yes, they require extra postage to mail. 

The scallop circle has mini pearls that I added

along the edge.

I die cut a couple of circles of decorative paper

and card stock, used my sewing machine to stitch

around the edges then distressed the edge of the 

blush card stock. 

WTF? is die cut from chip board then again from

decorative paper that I glued to the top.

I had to print on scrap paper from a font on my computer, 

trace then hand cut the question mark since 

there are no punctuation dies in the set.

The sentiment was created on my computer,

Blenda script, then hand cut 

and mounted on decorative paper.

It is slightly bent and attached at each end

to give it a bit of dimension.

I totally forgot to take a photo of the inside 

(as well as the pretty envelope I made !)

once I added the pink ring die cut that I pierced,

so I tried to alter the before photo to give you an idea.

It really helped finish it off, there was just too much

white space on the top portion of the card.

The bottom has a scrap of pretty decorative paper, 

a paper punched blush ribbon with a thin scrap of

textured Espresso card stock on top. 

While looking for a holiday card challenge website recently,

I stumbled across a site that lists numerous challenges.

I skimmed through them and found the following challenges

Speed Limit - digi kit

Here are the first two layouts and a greeting card front

I've made with the fun new 

digital scrapbooking kit by JMC Designs,

Speed Limit ! 

I know I will use this kit over and over !

I really like that it isn't just travel or new driver related,

there are a variety of elements and fun papers

to be used for many auto (even not auto) related projects.

On The Farm - digi kit

This is a page I made with the first of two new digital kits by JMC Designs this week:

On The Farm. 

Everything on the page except for the large light blue ring is in the kit

(some items have been reduced in size).

The horse in the photo above was on the sidewalk in front of the
F.M. Light & Sons store in Steamboat Springs, CO
when we visited there in 1998.
 I couldn't let the kids have all of the fun
and climbed up on Lightning, too, letting my inner cowgirl loose !



The layout is inspired by one I found on pinterest

Don't let the name of the kit fool you,

it is full of lots of great elements and papers 

that can be used for many other projects,

not just farm related scrapbook pages .

Here are a few fun card fronts I made
adding my own words/fonts from my computer
in the My Memories Suite V6 software:

The kit contents:

Triple Challenge Christmas Card

I should be making birthday cards

(I need three of them in the next week!),

but thought I'd look into card challenges instead.

Since I've not really

been in the craft dungeon/getting creative

much for over a month after Dad's passing, I thought

joining a challenge other than my design team duties

might help give me that little kick 

to get back to crafting more often. 

I searched for "Christmas Card Challenges"

since I may as well start thinking about

making some to send this year.

Retailers are already pushing holiday items:

I was in a discount store in mid September and

saw winter decor, Halloween decor and 

gardening supplies all in the same section!

My search turned up several sites.

I chose three of them near

the top of the search results and 

combined their challenges into one card :) 

They are listed below my card details.

I used a homemade shimmer mist spray on the

snowman and snowflakes.

I then added details to the snowman with markers

and white acrylic craft paint.

Clear rhinestones, two sizes, 

were added to the centers of the snowflakes.

The snowflakes are punched out of

Elegant Eggplant, Marvelous Magenta

and Orchid Opulence card stock from Stampin' Up!

The bottom, darkest, snowflake and snowman are

punches from Stampin' Up!

The top two lighter purple snowflake punches

are from Martha Stewart. 

Silver cord scrap for the bow.

Metallic silver card stock punched with a 1/4"circle punch

and adhered with hot glue to create the look of a door knob.

This photo was to try to show the sponging I did

along stencils to give the illusion of depth/detail on the door.

It doesn't show up well (the ink seems to have dried lighter

now that the card is completed so it doesn't show up as well

in the middle rectangular sections especially). 

The base of the card front (door) is Soft Sky from Stampin' Up!

The pink, printed ribbon was in a pack I bought from

Target (on clearance after the holidays) a few years ago.

Frightfully Scary- digi kit

There is nothing scary about the adorable new digital kit

from Jodi at JMC Designs ! 

There are so many fun digital/hybrid projects you could make

with this large kit.

This is a greeting card front. 

It would be fun to print out then add some real embellishments.

Print the sentiment again separately, then adhere on top of the card

with dimensional pop dots. 

Attach real ribbon in place of the printed ribbon and 

for a final fun touch, print out an extra bat,

carefully cut it out then adhere it with a pop dot

on top of the printed one.

I have some old photos of my children in a band concert

many years ago that need to be found, scanned and inserted ;) 

The "vellum" fancy shape under the photo blocks

is not included; it is a shape in the program I used to design the page.

House Of Cards - Color / Texture

Here we are, the first of another month (this year is flying by !) 

which means it is time for a new challenge at House of Cards : 

 colors and/or textures from the inspiration photo below. 

My card uses similar colors - and texture !

YES, that is a real crackled paint background that I painted then scored, 

making debossed lines on to resemble old weathered wood boards. 

Trying to capture the crackled paint with "fly specks".

How To:

Coat heavy card stock really well with crackle medium

(I bought mine years ago in the craft paint section).

Allow to dry thoroughly before applying paint.

Depending on how thick or thin you put the paint on,

the cracks will be larger or finer. 

Do not go back over the paint once it is on,

that will alter the cracking process.

I used a cream paint over a dark green card stock.

"Fly specks" were created with a speckled background

stamp from the old Itty Bitty Backgrounds stamp set, Stampin' Up!

I  normally use an old toothbrush to splatter on paint for speckling. 

NOTE: Color may "bleed" through from the card stock,

altering the color of your cracked paint layer. 

I stamped leaves from the old Lovely Leaves stamp set

by Stampin' Up! with multiple colors onto Vanilla card stock:

So Saffron and Pear Pizzazz

More Mustard and Pumpkin Pie

I also added a few specks of Espresso to them.

I then hand cut them out and bent them slightly

(I should have stamped the backs, too !).

They are adhered with hot glue over loops of thin twine.

I added a strip of Pear Pizzazz card stock that I

distressed the edges of and added piercing to.

A small little Happy Birthday stamp from Stampin' Up!

was stamped with Handsome Hunter ink. 

The burlap "ribbon" is actually a strip cut from some

old fabric in my stash and adhered with double stick tape.
