Moose Card

I stopped by the Cardz4Guyz blog
and saw that the new challenge of
fits this card that I created for
Operation Write Home  !
"I moose you very much " - if it were a cutesy image
I'd print that inside the card, but I chose to leave it blank.

Stamp image, Yukon, retired from Stampin' Up!
various inks and an aqua painter for water coloring
corrugated cardboard from inside an old light bulb box
green handmade paper, wedding invitation kit (not really that bright of a green!)
scraps of naturals and textured early espresso card stocks
twine, hardware department
dimensionals

Beautiful Baby Card

Oh, I am so happy with how this card turned out ! It was originally going to have all pink on it rather than any blue because the new mom to be was told she was having a girl. A bit later in the pregnancy, and after the shower that had to be rescheduled, she had an ultrasound for another reason and asked the technician to double check the baby's sex. That little stinker had been hiding his goods, it's a boy ! So I redid the card, changing out most of the pink for blue. I did leave a bit a of pink as a nod to the fact that they thought he was going to be a she - and strange things do happen, perhaps he really is a girl after all ;)

I like to try to make cards to color (or theme) coordinate with the occasion I am making them for if possible. I was able to visit with the mom to be a little bit one week before the baby shower and found out that she was being given a quilt with this "mosaic"design in it. All the colors were neutral, creams and tans. Now that she found out it is a boy, she may change her mind because this is what she was doing when it was a girl.

I used sketch challenge 253 at Operation Write Home as inspiration for the layout and in looking back through recent color challenges at Splitcoaststampers, com, it fits the color challenge 528: Crumb Cake, Soft Sky, Blushing Bride.

Most supplies used were from Stampin' Up!

Kraft Coredinations card stock , sanded
Soft Sky, Very Vanilla and Kraft card stocks
Mosaic embossing folder
Scallop edge border punch
Hole punch
Circle Nestabilities die
Blushing Bride ruffled ribbon
My Memories Suite software for the custom, circular sentiment
Dimensionals

In order to make the round sentiment on the front, I used My Memories Suite software. I made three different text boxes on a transparent background. Two of boxes  were text wrapped by applying the CURVE feature. One was inside and one was outside the circle to make the text look the way it does, otherwise one of the words would be upside down. Each required rotation to fit the way I wanted. The third text box is for the word Baby and it is just a regular text box, centered. I sized the circular sentiment to fit one of my Nestabilities dies, printed and cut out. The easiest way to do this is to add a SHAPE and type in a CUSTOM size that is the same as the die, Layer your text boxes over the shape, using it as a mat to work on then once done, delete the shape leaving only the text. What's neat is, if you design a word art that you would like to reuse, save it as a PNG file on the transparent background then you can reuse it and resize it for other projects!

Armed Forces Day 2015

WOW............. the images taken be military photographers deemed the best of 2014 will certainly leave one speechless as well as provoke many thoughts - and definitely leave one grateful for our military men and women. Awesome photographs.

On a side note, it is with happiness I relay that the wonderful Operation Write Home organization I have made and donated nearly 1000 (so far!) cards to will be wrapping up their services August 1st, 2015. While I will miss using my creativity to make cards for our service men and women to write home on, it is wonderful to know that so many are now back home :)  Read about the FINISH STRONG CAMPAIGN here.

"On May 12, 2015, Operation Write Home Executive Director Sandy Allnock, after consultation with the Board of Directors, announced the beginning of the final phase of the work of the organization’s mission.
The primary reason for this decision is one that few organizations are able to announce: an ongoing reduction in beneficiaries! With drawdowns and redeployments, the number of units requesting cards has dropped to a record low, and by the August 1st date, will be so small as to no longer warrant the costs of maintaining a 501(c)(3) organization.
While this may seem sad news to some – it is cause for rejoicing! Service members are able to communicate with family and friends across a dinner table rather than by mail…and that is good news!"

Lastly, there will be a blog hop May 23rd
at Operation Write Home !
Time to put on my thinking cap to
come up with a card or two to share for the hop.
I also must get that box of cards filled that I have been
slowly working on for far too long, get it sent off !!!!!!
I still have lots of cards to share on my blog that were made
to donate to OWH.

Frap Bottle Flower Vase for Mom

I made three of these for Mother's Day,
filling them with fresh cut iris and ferns
from my garden. These are empty, clean Starbucks
frappuccino/cappuccino bottles.

The frame stamp is an oldie by Stampendous (?).
It was stamped with black ink then die cut with a
Nestabilities circle die.
I colored the flowers with ink and hearts with glitter glue.
It is attached to the paper twist band with heavy duty double stick tape.
The band itself is not glued to the bottle, just wrapped around it snugly.
I didn't want to permanently attach it since it would get ruined
when emptying/refilling/cleaning the vase.

Martha Stewart fern(?) punch, Petite Petals and Flower Trio
punches by Stampin' Up!

White card stock, textured purple card stock (unknown),
Gable green card stock and yellow paper twist.
Finished off the large purple flowers with yellow rhinestones.
