Angel Wreath - Celestial Challenge at Anything But A Card

This months challenge prompt at

Just what I needed to finally put paint to plaster
and complete one of the many crafty items I
have had in stock for far too long!
One of them happened to be a precast plaster
wall hanging of an
Angel with stars, perfect
for the challenge - and the season.

The precast plaster item, various paints and varnish,
snow texture medium,
an old wreath and red velvet ribbon
I've kept to reuse "someday" -
they all came together pretty well :)

Twenty plus years ago I used to enjoy painting precast plaster
items such as ornaments for the Christmas Tree.
I made lots of small items to donate to the
elementary school holiday bazaar that I organized
and crafted year round for way back when.
After my children moved up to Junior High,
I no longer ran the bazaar or was needed for it :(

I've since discovered rubber stamping and card making
which have taken over for my days
of making general, country crafty / home decor type items !
I still have a large stash of  "to do" craft projects in stock, though.

The photos below show some of the detail on the
plaster item after I painted it with acrylic craft paints:

Toothpicks are great for adding tiny dots of paint.

I thought my project for the challenge was done:
a gift set of the painted plaster item,
handmade card and gift bag complete with
bubble wrap and tissue paper.

I decided the plaster hanging was a bit too "blah",
so I dug out an old horribly misshapen wreath
(found at a tag sale at a local church years ago),
snow texture medium and a piece of red "velvet" ribbon
I've had saved in my stash (from a package long ago).

After reshaping the wreath the best I could
( I did choose to keep it a bit oval shaped)
and fluffing out the little branches,
I used my fingers to rub on the snow texture medium.

Once it was dry, I attached the angel plaster hanging.

I then wrapped some wire around it at the top to create
a hanger.

The red ribbon was cut and made into a bow,
then attached with hot glue.

I briefly thought about hot gluing in some old
ball ornaments and make some glittery gold stars
to add as well, but I decided it would be too
"busy" with all that on there.
I kept it plain and simple !

Christmas Digital Scrapbook Pages

Here are a few digital scrapbook pages of old photos (blocked out for privacy) that I put together to share with extended family. I'll add journaling before I share the pages with them.

I was doing a search for a Steampunk themed digital kit for a creative team project I had and one of the hits was a kit by designer Karry Dempsey at  Come to find out after clicking the link, she has a section on the forum there for her free kits. There are 12 pages of comments and images to her downloads, I just had to look through them all and was wowed by them. The pages above were made with her most recent kit, An Old Fashion Christmas. What a generous, talented lady ! THANK YOU, Karry !

I used MyMemories Suite 5 software to create the pages. It is easy enough to use outside content in the program.

I've decided that I prefer digital scrapbooking over traditional scrapbooking (gasp!).

  • It is much quicker (for me personally) .
  • It requires no storage space (except on your computer!) .
  • You can work on it for a while then save the files, no worries about leaving supplies laying out.
  • It is less wasteful if you make something you aren't quite happy with (or it accidentally gets ruined by a cat walking across your layout as you are working on it for example!) .
  • Easy to fix mistakes or change out embellishments and photos by just deleting and adding something else.
  • Printed pages fit in albums so much better without all the bulk (though dimension on pages is nice at times, too..........) .
  • You can buy entire coordinating kits from thousands of designers for just a fraction of the cost traditional paper craft supplies (and tools!) cost.
  • You can find lots of FREE kits online, too, such as at !

See yesterdays post for links to a couple of free kits, good this week only at .

Water colored with various classic inks and an aquapainter.

Green mulberry paper.

Square Lattice embossing folder used on the bottom half of the yellow card stock base.

Four Seasons Borders Fall Card

I had fun digging out some of my old "seasonal"stamp sets and coloring them to make Thanksgiving cards this year. This one is a set of four borders; I think the name of the set is Four Season Borders (retired from Stampin' Up!).

Image was stamped with Basic Black ink then water colored with ink pads and an aquapainter.

I tore the top and bottom off of the stamped natural card stock panel then folded it over.

I used my sewing machine to add real stitching along the top edge.

Crumb Cake ribbon and card stock.

Give Thanks Centerpiece

Centerpiece I put together with various
craft supplies and scraps,
rubber stamps, inks, paper punches.

The real mini pumpkins were leftover from Halloween.

I made the burlap rose.

Lovely Leaves stamp set colored with various colors of ink
then hand cut and lightly curled in portions.

Easy, quick way to make flags/banners.
I used a 1" strip of paper and
a 1" square punch.

So many wonderful quotes about Gratitude and Thankfulness on this website. Print some out to make place markers, napkin rings, a frameable piece , use them on scrapbook pages, etc.

When you rise in the morning, give thanks for the light, for your life, for your strength. Give thanks for your food and for the joy of living. If you see no reason to give thanks, the fault lies in yourself.

The top card also uses an image from Frames With A Flourish, stamped with Versamark ink.

The bottom card uses an image from True Friend, stamped with Versamark ink.

Give Thanks was colored with markers.

Various punches and dies.

Chocolate grosgrain ribbon.

Dimensionals (pop dots).

Gold mini brads.

Vase of Wildflowers Fall Card

Autumn stamp set from Stampin' Up!

I inked each of the florals with a marker and stamped it on a
Naturals card stock.

The vase was made by stamping a vase image onto silver paper
then cutting it out and flipping it over.
I went around the edge with a marker.

Various colors of card stock from Stampin' Up!

Scallop border punch was paper pierced in each scallop.

The yellow strip was run through the Square Lattice
embossing folder.

Inspired by samples I've seen shared.

Money Medallion Flower Tutorial - 5's Challenge at Anything But A Card

I like to make giving money as gifts fun when possible. See some of the other fun ways I've presented cash here.

I came up with the lolly flower money idea last month and since I used $5 bills, I decided to save this project and share it for the 5s Challenge at Anything But A Card this month :)

Below are numerous photos that show how I made this flower so it will take a while to load.

Don't use too heavy duty/permanent tape,
you don't want to ruin the money !
I use just sticky enough tape so that it held together
for a couple of hours until I could give it to the recipient.

Scrap paper to safely adhere the leaves to the bottom of
the flower and top of the package without ruining the money.
I glued the scrap paper to the bottom of the flower
(a punched circle of lightweight chipboard).
