Or as I often find myself saying looking back at old photos  : not nearly enough photos!

I don't make resolutions, but if I did, one for this year would be to FINALLY get decades worth of photos put in albums. I'm off to a decent start, spending these first two weeks of the new year dismantling the kids baby/toddler photo albums.

one of two shoe boxes full of photos removed from albums

WHY take photos out of albums if the goal is to get them into albums and out of boxes you ask ?
There were a couple of reasons I decided to make more work for myself with this project. The first is that several of the pages are damaged, photos were not staying in the pockets very well. Nearly all of the pages in one of the albums needs to be repaired so they will stay in the album cover. It was dropped years ago, the weight of all the pages tore the holes in the plastic pages. Since these types of albums are no longer available (perfectly sized for 3 1/2" x 5" photos, six per page) and I made a custom fabric cover for it, I would really like to keep it.

I wonder if office supply hole reinforcements would work?
I may end up cutting thin strips of white Gorilla Glue tape.

The second reason why I took photos out of the albums is so I can put them back in with journaling cards added in places.  There are also screen shots of old video that I am going to have printed (not at all the best quality, but the only photos I will have of certain memories) that need to be put into these albums, causing me to reorder photos. This will fill the albums faster, leaving dozens left over that will need to be put into another album. Since I've not put any photos into albums past the first 5 years of being a Mom, I can start by adding the leftovers in the new albums, journaling cards and then start in on the numerous boxes of photos ! I want to put photos in the albums in chronological order. Whew !

I started by making actual scrapbook pages, pretty simple ones, of the few photos I had from my pregnancy and the birth of my first child. I soon switched to basic pocket albums. Although scrapping is fun, it does take quite a bit of time and the completed pages take up a lot more space !

Just 30 pages filled a post bound album, busting it at the seams even with extenders added ! I also worry that the various embellishments may damage photos over time ( I try to align them as best I can on the opposite page to hopefully not press against the photos). I'll share a few of the pages at some point, but most are really super simple and plain.

So, yes, it is going to be a very time consuming project, one I have put off for far, far too long.
Because I am determined to work on this long term project as much as possible this year,  I've decided to not participate in many challenges or work on several design teams as I have in the past.  It's just too time consuming. That being said, I don't plan on posting/blogging as many projects this year (of course that may change, I've sooooo many things I want to make!).

Happy, Crafty New Year !
