It's A Winner - truck card

This is the birthday card I made for my father. It is 5" x 7" and uses supplies from Stampin' Up!. I had several ideas floating around and decided to make this one in the end. I think he may get the idea of them being award ribbons. Doesn't make much sense to make the ribbons though since they receive trophies (or plaques) at car shows for placing. My parents show truck has won numerous awards over the years.

I also made a 3D box shaped like the truck a couple of years ago.

I've made lots of masculine cards using the few automotive stamp images from Stampin' Up! I own. I'm kind of getting tired of using the same ones, c'mon Stampin' Up!, make some more automotive stamps like the old Classic Convertibles or Pickups sets that I love ! Maybe the new catalog will have some finally ?!???! Fingers crossed !

SUPPLIES USED

Card stock:
Sahara Sand
Basic Black
Brilliant Blue
Real Red
Whisper White

Highways and Byways background stamp
Bold Alpha Numbers stamps

Versamark ink
Black embossing powder
Silver embossing powder
heat gun
3/4" circle punch
square punch (or scissors)
scoring board
low melt hot glue
double stick tape adhesive

Stamp and heat emboss the Highways and Byways background stamp onto Sahara Sand card stock. I used a super wide chisel edge black Sharpie marker to make a faux Basic Black card stock layer around the edge of the Sahara Sand card stock.

this card would require extra postage,
but I'll be delivering it - along with an apple pie made from scratch =)

The little folded paper medallions are called many different things such as lollies or rosettes. Here is a tutorial that shows you how to make what this web site calls  "fan fold flowers"

Make three medallions from scored card stock strips. Mine were 1/2" x 9" to start, scored every 1/4". I prefer to use low temp hot glue for adhering the crimped paper to the punched circle back piece. Be sure to keep a cup of water nearby in case any hot glue gets on your fingers: dip the finger/glue into the water right away to cool it off, help stop the burning. Although I learned that trick many years ago at a job I had,  I rarely keep water nearby. I'm such a klutz, I'm afraid I'd knock the cup over and spill the water on the project.

I used a 3/4" circle punch and silver embossing powder with number stamps for the center of the medallions.

The ribbons tails are a 1" x 4 1/4" strip of card stock trimmed with a square punch (or scissors) to make the points.

The photo is mounted on Basic Black card stock then adhered to the card over the ribbon tails with dimensionals.

Sympathy Card 3

Another simple, mail friendly card using up some scraps.

Background image was stamped with Not Quite Navy ink onto text weight vanilla paper. Mounted onto a scrap of card stock, not sure of the manufacturer or name of the color.

Stamped a greeting from the Loving Thoughts stamp set from Stampin' Up! with Colorbox hybrid ink onto Vanilla satin ribbon. The background paper could be seen through the ribbon so I cut a small strip of card stock to adhere between the ribbon and decorative paper.

Wrapped the ends of the ribbon around the stamped piece and adhered with sticky strip, mounted to Very Vanilla card base.

Thanks for looking =)

Sympathy Card 1

I had to make three more Sympathy Cards this past week.

I raided my scraps to come up with these fairly flat, simple enough cards to mail. I didn't want anything that had to be taken to the Post Office to be checked for extra postage since I wasn't going into town anytime soon. I make as few trips as possible, always have, but with gas so high it is even more important to not drive in for one little errand. My gas hog SUV only gets 13 miles to the gallon - so it is nearly a gallon of gas each way just to get to town then back ! That's currently about $8 each time I drive to in....... I know, quit my complaining, it could be so much worse !

This particular card (the finished size is 5" x 7" ) uses the first attempt at stamping and coloring on fabric with regular markers that I tried a few years ago. That finished card can be seen here.

items used from Stampin ' Up!
Elements of Style stamp set
Loving Memories stamp set
Very Vanilla card stock
So Saffron card stock
So Saffron ink
Basic Brown ink
various markers
scoring board
Stampin' pastels

 other items:
fabric
sewing machine
Nestabilites dies

BHG Pin and Win Contest

I caved, I made a Pinterest board ! I spent HOURS searching for and posting photos to a board for the Better Homes and Gardens Pin and Win contest. I created a board to show some ideas I'd like to use in my dream attic redo = crafty space.

I see how Pinterest can easily become an addiction and one would lose track of time on that site, whew. For me, I think it will end with that contest entry due to our internet connection. Pinterest is not dial up connectivity friendly, at least with ours: nothing wants to load. It works great using the mobile broadband plan - except that it eats up the limited usage far too quickly. So for now, unless I am out somewhere with free WIFI, I won't be pinning :(

While there I discovered that several of my creations shared here on the blog have been "pinned" by others, how flattering ! I'm glad that some of my projects have inspired others =)

Bigfoot Digital Scrapbook

The pages above and below, other than the journaling and title,
are exactly as they are in the Downtown Grunge Designer Kit
from My Digital Studio, Stampin' Up!

I removed an embellishment then added two stamps of the splatter from Extreme Elements on this page.

As it comes in the kit, just insert your own photos.
You can always change things up , moving, dleting or adding items
to the designer pages (although I am unable remove or resize the frames in this kit)

Sharing a couple more scrapbook pages since it is National Scrapbooking Day.

LOVE the simplicity the Designer Albums in My Digital Studio from Stampin' Up! offers.
Simply add your favorite photos to a predesigned digital album and you are done, no excuses to not scrapbook anymore (ha, ha, ha  I still have several excuses as to why I don't have a single album completed though).  I really, really need to spend some time playing with the software - and scrapbook !

I used the Downtown Grunge designer kit to whip up a few pages digitally for this project. The photograph I took of the monster truck Bigfoot flying through the air was printed in our local newspaper last weekend. The paper has been running a "Photo Of The Week" contest the last couple of months. I've submitted a few photos, this is my second to be printed in the paper. They aren't "winners" which are printed in color, but it's still pretty exciting to have a photo that I took in print =)

Zebra Butterfly Digital Scrapbook Page

With National Scrapbook Day coming up, I thought I ought to share a page or two

I am so ashamed to admit that despite having bought dozens and dozens of extra downloads (and I still want so many more!), I rarely use the My Digital Studio software from Stampin" Up!. I will also admit that I rarely (ummm, never) scrapbook despite having oodles of supplies not to mention boxes upon boxes of photos to scrapbook. I need to at least get them out of the boxes and into photo albums. Gasp ! I suppose I am intimidated at the sheer number of them. Although I think there are not nearly enough photographs (or videos) of the kids when they were younger. The cost of film and developing limited the number of photos I took. Not that I take that many more with my digital camera now. I would have taken many, many more as the kids were growing up and doing cute things if there were digital cameras back then.

Ah well, anyway  above is a page I threw together to show off a favorite photo I took that was published in our local newspaper, in black and white, last month.  This digital scrapbook page was made from scratch using several add on items to the My Digital Studio core software. Below are the boxes and old albums of photos. I also have a small binder full of CDs (25 and counting, each has dozens upon dozens of photos!) with digital photos not yet printed. There are a lot of photos but I sure do wish I had many, many more. Sigh.

I really must make time to start scrapping, especially now that I have completed the scanning of my old negatives with my Canoscan 9000F. Along with so many other things, just not enough hours in the day it seems......................

Purrrfect Friend Birthday Card

I first made this card at Valentine's then decided it would make a fun birthday card instead.

The image is from an old Stampin' Up Valentine's set, I don't recall the name.

The flower punches are from Stampin' Up!

The circle was cut with a Coluzzle, the heart from a template.

Whisper White and Basic Black card stock, all ink colors are from Stampin' Up!

Red, textured apricot, gray blue card stocks are all from unknown manufacturers; I raided my scrap boxes.

Stampin' Up! Embossing folder edgelits.

Flower brad , I am not sure of the manufacturer....
