House Of Cards May Challenge

We have a fun color palette (and/or use sequins)
this month at the House of Cards Challenge blog:

Once again, depending on the computer I use to look at the inspiration photo,
my colors are not quite right on my finished project :(

I do not have sequins, so I used a rhinestone
to dot the "I" on the word friend.

This was a simple card made from preprinted decorative paper
layered over a dark brown base.
I added a die cut (Cuttlebug) sentiment and rhinestone.
It's a mail friendly card, too, not requiring extra postage.

Here are several more quick cards I made from scraps and pieces of designer papers
 that I used to make a couple of other projects with. They made up a gift set.
They'll be posted here on my blog the 5th (I love how this recovered mini scrapbook turned out!)
and 15th (recovered/decorated paper mache frame) as other design team projects.
Check out the digital versions of these papers that I made
used on a digital scrapbook page I also posted today !

Digitally Made May Challenge

Welcome to the very first challenge at

We are a new 100 % digital craft blog.
That is, no printed digital images
assembled into tangible, hand crafted projects.
We want to see your digital art,
be it scrapbook pages, cards, inspirational
quotes combined with photos, banners
made for social media, backgrounds
for your computer screen, digital paintings,
printables, etc and so on !

We will have monthly themes to challenge you.

Our theme this month is Anything Goes -
so long as it is completely digital and family friendly !

Our challenge is just for fun and inspiration,
there are no prizes awarded.
Our winner for the month will be offered
a guest designer spot in a future challenge.

I created a digital scrapbook page for my project.
I'm hoping to get a decent photo of my Mom and I
on Mother's Day to add to the completed page :)

Digital Papers : I created them myself by scanning papers
(Attic Boutique) bought from Stampin' Up! several years ago.

I used the actual papers on several other projects that you
can see in additional posts this month as part
of other design team projects I made.

The papers were 12" x 12", so I had to scan them in two sections
using my Canoscan. I then used Photoshop Elements
to piece the two sections together - yes, it was quite
tricky, on some more than others. There may be an easier way
to do it using some function in the program that I am not aware of.
Once I was happy with the way I got them lined up, I cropped them
to a 12" square and saved them at 300 dpi. Sure, it was a lot of work
to make my own digital papers this way, but now I have digital versions
of this particular paper should I ever want to print it out for another
handmade project or use it digitally on additional projects (more likely).

Digital elements : various elements purchased years ago
through Stampin' Up! for the My Digital Studio program
they offered. It has since been discontinued and content
is no longer available. I use My Memories Suite now.

Quote element : from LollyJane.com
(I altered it a bit by painting over the URL on the image)

Template : freebie from Miss Mel as part of the
March 2017 For The Love of Templates Blog Train

Because I used a predesigned template for this project,
Photoshop Elements was the program of choice.
These types of files do not work in My Memories Suite.

Cute As A Button frame

As soon as I saw the current challenge at
I knew what I was going to make.

It may not quite fit what the design team expected,
but it is something I've been wanting to make
to have on hand for the next wee one that comes
into my large extended family.

(NOTE: the photo is an advertisement for a doll)

I started by stamping a button borders image
(I'm guessing it is from around 1997, by Stampin' Up!)
 onto four pieces of card stock that were cut to 1" x 5".

I lined them up to create a frame,
adding double stick tape to the corners.
I cut them on a diagonal to create miters.
Tip: take your time in placing the tape,
considering what portions will become scrap
once cut. You don't want the tape to be on the good
portion of the frame you want to use.

After cutting the miters, I applied double stick tape
and adhered it to a chipboard piece I cut to fit.
I then cut strips of  thin advertising magnets
(great use for those junk mail magnets)
and glued them on the back so it would stick to metal.

My button is one I made from "paper clay"
and a mold that Stampin' Up! sold several years ago.
There is no date on the packaging,
but I'm guessing it is at least 5 years old, maybe more.
Not that I don't have oodles of buttons in my stash as it is,
but I needed to get some more use out of this barely used kit.

Once the clay was dry, I painted it with glossy black
craft paint then carefully filled in the dashes around
the edge with white paint using a toothpick.

The button was finished with scraps of ribbon tied into a knot.

The flags were cut by hand.
"Cute" is a portion of the "how cute is that" stamp that I inked
 from the old set Phase Starters by Stampin' Up!, dated 2003.

"as a button" was made by assembling Small Casual Snap Stamps
into the phrase. They are dated 2005.

Supplies: Ivory Naturals (bought in 2000) card stock and black ink.

I am also entering my frame into the Anything Goes challenges at
and PDE Linky Party(optional wall banners) .

Color Challenge Digi Scrap Page

Today I'm sharing another quick digi scrap page for a challenge at

I used a kit from JMC Designs called Celebrate Everyone
which is actually a birthday themed kit, but there were enough extra elements
to make it work for this page. It was the only digital kit I have that the colors
would sort of work for this challenge ;)  I also used My Memories Suite V8 software.

Below is a fun little group of elements and text I created as a countdown reminder for
Digitally Made Challenges: we go live on May 1st!

Masculine 22nd Birthday Card

Today's project is a card I created for my gear head
son who works as a fabricator/welder.

The textured black card base was cut with a circle card Sizzlits die.

I had to hand cut the embossed white layers because
there are no dies for it in the card base set (from Stampin' Up!).

The white side panels are embossed with the Clockworks
embossing folder by Cuttlebug.

The gear dies were from Joy! crafts.

The 22 was made from an alphabet die set from Stampin' Up!

I used a Spellbinders circle die to cut out the white panel.
I pierced around the edge of it.

The happy birthday stamp is from Stampin' Up!
as are the red eyelets and vellum.

Although I may not have used circles as the design team intended,
 I am entering this card in the current challenge at

Persnickety Prints 12x12 Prints Review

I just had to write a review about the prints I recently ordered.
If you are a digital scrapbooker and haven't had your pages printed,
I recommend giving Persnickety Prints a try.

After doing creative team work for several years,
I have dozens (umm, yeah, make that more like a couple hundred!)
of layouts stored on my hard drive. It was time to have some
of my favorites printed. Add to that the fact that I was working
on a large photo display project (I'll share that in the future)
that required several 12 x 12 prints, I had to find a place
that would print large images and at a reasonable price.

After doing some online research, I came across
Persnickety Prints and am so pleased that I did!

I'm including several photos below to attempt to show
the overall quality experience I had,

First off, the ordering process went well.
I did need to go someplace to access high speed internet
(no such service available where we live).
to upload my 77 files. Yes, seventy seven for my first order!
I used the online ordering process on a computer.

There are several options (some fun ones too)
 to edit your images online. I didn't use any of them
since I was uploading digi scrap pages that didn't need edited.
Look across the top of the screen shot to see what they are:

When you have all of your prints chosen, edited, etc
and are placing the order, a box will pop up to let you know
if any of them are not large enough to make quality prints.
I know this first hand as there were a few in my order.
You have the choice to go ahead with the order or fix the files.
By the way, they offer many print size options a well as other
fun items you can have your images printed on.
Prices vary according to the product you order.
12" x 12" prints were $1.99 US when I ordered mine.

Everything was pretty easy and worked fine on the high speed internet.

My order was submitted just after 11 PM on a Friday in their time zone.
I received an email the next day stating they received the order
and were processing it. Later that night an additional email
came to let me know that my order was on the way !
The following Monday it arrived in the mail via
USPS Priority Mail. Three days from uploading the digital files
to receiving the prints! Wow !
Turnaround time will likely vary due to where you live
and what you order.

This is how my order looked when it arrived,
the prints were in perfect condition:

"!! PHOTOS DO NOT BEND!!"

They have a one price shipping feature, $5.99 US.
Since my order was over 14oz, it came Priority mail.
Be sure to check the website for all information
regarding product and shipping prices.

When I cut the two pieces of heavy packing tape to open the
package, a few pieces of paper slid out:
printed order form with a handwritten name,
thank you card with the satisfaction guarantee on the back,
advertisement and discount offer.

Flip the package open one more time to see the packaged prints taped
in place with this fun logo printed on the chipboard covering them.

 The prints were packaged in self adhesive cellophane bags.
I ordered 77 prints, so they were in two packages.

I think they look great, both in color and crispness.
Any issues there may be are on my amateur end.

Not the best image, but I was trying to give you an
idea of how thick the Fujicolor Crystal Archive photo paper is.
I had prints done elsewhere several years ago and they were very lightweight,
so flimsy that they would crease easily.

I chose matte finish for my prints; there is a glossy option.
Note: the print looks curled in this photo because I bent it slightly
  to get a better angle/light on it when taking the photo.
The prints were nice and flat.

The backs were lightly printed with my name and
the file name of the image.

Bleed area = barely noticeable !
Above is a photo showing the digital file vs a photo
(NOT good, do not use it to judge the quality of the print)
of the same section of the printed image to show how very little
is lost along the edge in printing a 12"x 12" page at Persnickety.
Some places tell you to leave a certain amount of bleed area
around your layout to avoid having important portions
along the edges cut off, lost in the printing process.
This may be true with their process, so follow their guidelines.
I would still recommend that you design your layouts with an area
that could possibly be cut off during printing just to be safe.
Meaning, no journaling or photographs too close to the edge.
I was just showing that I noticed nothing significant
along the edges of my prints cut off on this order.
They were well centered.

Now to get all of my prints into albums - and prepare a second order !

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I was not compensated by the company in any way for this review.
I just wanted to share my experience with others that may be
considering printing their digital scrapbook pages.
Spring Digi Scrap Page
The digital scrap book page I created to share today
was made to fit a couple of challenges.
The first is a template challenge by JMC Designs.
It is free right now on the web site.
The challenge is to use the fun template
and one of the designers kits.
If you play along and share your layout,
you will be entered for a chance to win one of her kits !
I'm part of her design team, so I wanted to
participate to help promote the grand opening
of her two new stores at:
I used the kit Springtime Wishes.
The second challenge I created this page for is a new one I found,
Lasting Memories Layout Challenges.
I couldn't find anything specific in the rules against digital pages,
so I took a chance on entering ;)
This page is for the Use The Word SPRING
There are actually several challenges that run the
entire month, a new one each week.
Another challenge is to use flowers,
which this page could have worked for as well,
but I chose to enter it in the spring word challenge
to show off that fun word art in the digital kit.
I'm glad I came across this challenge blog
and look forward to playing along with them again.
Lastly, a quick reminder that we are counting down to the launch
of the new 100% digital crafts challenge blog,
We go live May 1st, check us out !
Digital Birthday Card
We are counting down to the debut of the new
This is a new 100% digital crafts challenge
that goes live May 1st.
Today I am sharing a digital card I made
for the countdown at Digitally Made.
I've created a digital card using
My Memories Suite V8 software
and elements from the Spaced Invaders
 digital kit by JMC Designs.
The rocket ship represents the number one
combined with the numeral zero embellishment
to create a "10" on this printable birthday card.
Recycling Greeting Cards
Earth Day , Every Day
                            Reduce,  Reuse,  Recycle
There are lots of great ways to implement the three "R's" that can be found all over the internet.
Here is a new to me idea:
http://www.stjudesranch.org/contribute/recycled-card-program/
I know, I know: not even contributing to the flood of wasteful products to make cards, etc in the first place would be even more "green", but I won't give up my crafty things to put my creativity to use !
I should start writing notes on a separate piece of paper rather than writing directly on the inside of cards more often, then the recipient could resend the card to someone else if they wanted.
