PROJECT DETAILS:

Snowflake Iris Card Supplies:
Light Blue, White, Shimmery White card stocks
Polka dot vellum
Snowflake die, Cuttlebug
Scallop square die, Nestabilities
Paper piercer
Adhesive
Dimensionals

This truly was an experiment that I was so pleased worked out well on the first try !
I used items on hand and some "guesstimating" to work it out.

Here are the basic steps and supplies:
The snowflake die is an oldie from Cuttlebug/Provo Craft.
I centered the die on a 3 3/4" square piece of Bashful Blue card stock and cut it out.
I cut numerous 1/2" wide strips of polka dot vellum paper then scored them in half along the length of the strip. The score helped in folding the vellum in half.
I kept the strips of vellum their original length, trimming them off as I adhered them to the back of the snowflake window.

I connected two arms of the snowflake per piece of vellum, trying to keep them all positioned along the same area of each. I worked in a conterclockwise rotation, making sure to keep going the same direction and adding all of the strips of vellum of one row before moving on to the next. Each row slightly overlaps the previous row. There were six strips of vellum per row for five rows. The very center row, the sixth, has just three strips of vellum.

The base of the card, around the snowflake window, has thin strips of double stick tape on it. A two way glue pen was used to attach the vellum strips to each other.

To finish the card, I paper pierced along the edge of the snowflake window panel. This was then mounted using dimensionals/pop dots to a piece of shimmery paper I die cut with a scallop edge square die. Both pieces are then adhered to a white card base, 4 1/4" square.

This may not be a true iris fold pattern, but it turned out pretty well. Think of all the fun shapes you can use to die cut a window for iris folding !
