Layered Unicorn Wall Decor

The March Anything Goes crafting challenge

I used the 

Unicorn And Roses

image from A Day For Daisies for my piece. 

I printed the digital image at regular size 

onto white card stock.

It fits nicely into a 6 x 6 frame.

The eye was colored with a marker

and the background was water colored.

The horn has Stickles diamond glitter glue on it

and the ribbons were colored with a silver metallic marker.

I then printed the image two more times 

onto a shimmery white paper,

trimming out the mane portion of each.

The mane is attached with dimensionals and glue
to create dimension.

I made my own very tiny flowers.

The pink "roses" are made from pre-made

five petal paper flowers that I trimmed, scrunched

and glued into place to replicate a rose.
I used a darker color for the base,
lighter for the top layer. 

The tiny yellow flowers were made with paper punches

and have rhinestone accents.

I hand cut teeny little leaves from green card stock

and added detail with a green marker. 

All pieces were carefully glued together with a 
clear drying liquid tacky glue. 
I squeezed a small puddle of the glue onto scrap paper
then used a toothpick to dab very small amounts
of the glue onto each piece.

These flowers are no larger than the end of a pencil,
very small and tricky at times to create !

I was going to chalk / distress paint my frame , 

but decided in the end to keep it black,

thinking the image would pop more

Mardi Gras Memory Frame

Today I'm sharing my project for the 

Love To Craft Challenge Blog,

March Anything Goes Challenge.
Please read our simple rules first;
you have all month to play along. 

This is a memory frame I built myself from an old

Larson Juhl moulding kit I have had in my stash.

It is 15"square. 

It was easy to assemble,

using wood glue and the included clips.

Everything was precut, nice and clean edges

with mitered corners that matched up well. 

I had glass cut at a local hardware store

because it is cheaper than the glass from a frame shop.

It doesn't have the UV protection that the museum quality glass

from a frame shop has, 

but I don't care since it isn't something I will keep up forever. 

 I added spacers to give it enough depth for the beads 

we caught at a parade to fit.

Dabs of hot glue were used to attach the beads to a piece of mat board.

Photos and paper memorabilia are attached with double stick tape.

The entire piece is mounted into the solid wood  frame with a 

point gun I was given for my birthday. 

I really enjoyed working on this piece and am excited to

put the other two frame moulding kits I have to use soon!

House of Cards March Challenge

Time for a new challenge at 

House of Cards:

create a scene and/or use the colors.

I used paper punches, a little bit of rubber stamping

and sponging of ink to create a "field of clover"

St. Patrick's Day card.

Love To Craft Challenge February

The newest anything goes craft challenge at 

Love To Craft 

is now live for the month of February !

This month I'm sharing a few projects I 

created for a recent remodel of a room.

The centerpiece of the above wall display is a 12 x 12 

scrapbook page I made to showcase photos of Mustang cars.

 I painted a piece of gray 12 x 12 card stock silver.

I measured and cut out three "windows".

Red, white and blue card stock was cut to fit beneath 

the cut outs then scored multiple times.

I taped the scored card stock under the cut outs.

 A lot of work to recreate the look of 

part of a Ford Mustang emblem for a scrap book page,

but it was worth it to me. 

Another wall features two shadowboxes.

Above them hangs a large collage photo frame

I custom made many years ago.

Shadow box that I added home made spacers to so I could

mount dimensional dash plaques and hat pins.

The spacers were cut from foam core that I painted black. 

They are adhered inside the frame with double stick tape.

A scrap of mat board painted with the same paint as the wall

is the base for the plaques and pins. It rests on top of the 

edge of the spacers , the bottom edges are against the glass.

A deeper shadowbox that I was able to mount

some old hot wheels in along with the original

Hot Wheels Club membership "card" received

many years ago. I had the okay to cut apart the original

plastic inserts of the box that the 8 piece collector

car set came in. I was going to have some custom

pieces made from plexiglass for it to save the original box,

but he said he really didn't care, go ahead and cut it up. 

I made simple "checkered flag" window valances from a 

large buffalo check table cloth.

There are also numerous die cast cars on display that were collected by my father. 

We received them after his passing.

Quite a change from the old green painted walls with a country and ivy theme

room it was for the past 17 years, but perfect for us !

Making Memories Crafting Challenge February

Time for the February challenge at

Making Memories Crafting Challenge Blog ! 

This is an anything crafty goes challenge, 

digital creations included,

following this months theme of 

Valentine / use red. 

Please submit family friendly projects

and read our simple rules first :) 

Our generous sponsor this month is

I used the cute digital stamp

Bear With Heart 

to create a printable card front (above)

with inside sentiment (below).

The image was colored in with Photoshop Elements 10

(I'm still learning how to color digitally.....)

then saved as a PNG with a 

transparent background so I could import it

into My Memories Suite V8 software to complete

the card. I could have finished it with PSE,

but I like the simplicity of MMS

and having lots of fun digital elements already in

the program to choose from to complete the project.

Wouldn't this image be adorable cut into layers 

and made into a paper crafted card? 

Print it out several times, cutting away the

feet and face then reattach them with pop dots for dimension.

I would also trim around the ribbon and arms/heart, 

popping them up a bit, too.

House of Cards February Challenge

February 1st,

time for a new challenge at

House of Cards Challenge Blog ! 

This months challenge:

love and/or colors

from the inspiration photo below.

I used similar pink colors,

trying to create an ombre effect

on the letter pressed hearts and polka dots

background. I accidentally over blended them 

so there isn't as much of a gradient as I wanted.

Circle dies and a punch with coordinating stamp

to create the swinging element in a window.

The stamp was inked with a medium pink then

the edges were rolled onto a darker pink.

I made two of the stamped elements then glued 

them back to back with fishing line

between them to suspend it. 

The ends of the string were glued between

the front panel and card base front.

Polka dot grosgrain ribbon finishes it off.

This photo also shows the thin ring I cut from pink 

card stock to frame the opening.
