Misprint Cards

Images were printed onto regular printer paper

rather than card stock as I intended,

but I went ahead and used them anyway.

The bottom card is not finished, waiting to

add a sentiment in the center of the heart 

when the card is needed. It actually has a die cut

"thank you" as part of the die, but I trim it out

so I can put in other words as needed.

Mason Cookie Jar and Lift TUTORIAL

I know, it's only hot and humid early August , why am I sharing a Christmas project ? Well, it isn't too early to start thinking about making gifts for the holidays!

SUPPLIES:

Baked with Love digital stamp image by Polkadoodles

White, red and green card stock

Various dye ink pads and an aquapainter for watercoloring

White acrylic craft paint dotted with the end of a paint brush to make polka dots

Scallop edge border punch

Scallop edge circle punch, 3"

Decorative paper

2  3/4 " circle of chipboard

Ribbon

Adhesive

Wide mouth jar

Cut several pieces of decorative paper

to layer between the cookies.

Cut a circle for the base of the lift from

a sturdy chipboard.

Adhere the center of the ribbon to the 

bottom of the chipboard circle.

 Run ends of ribbon between the two pieces

of the metal mason jar lid.

Homemade Alcohol Ink and Cards

I finally got around to making my own home made

alcohol ink sprays !

A very messy project, but it was fun 

playing with the sprays outdoors.

I've never used such a thing, so it is a learning process.

There are oh so many recipes/tutorials to be found online.

Here is what I used:

I had to order small spray bottles from

Michael's as there were no such thing

to be found local to where I live.

$1 a piece

91% alcohol

$1

cheap permanent markers, 2 per bottle

$1 per package, 4 packages

First things first,

protect your work surface !

Fill the bottle with alcohol, 

cut apart the markers to remove

the ink cartridge and insert in

the bottle filled with alcohol for about 24 hours.

This did bother me a bit, being wasteful

with throwing away the marker bits.

Too bad there is no recycling here,

if it was even the acceptable type of plastic.

Remove with tweezers and squeeze the excess liquid

from the cartridges back into the bottle if possible. 

You'll want to wear rubber gloves

and still be prepared to have stained fingernails/hands

for at least a week. I speak from experience,

even wearing gloves I managed to end up stained.

No big deal for me since I don't work from home

or anything like that where I'd be seen with stained fingers ;) 

You may need to use less alcohol or

add more ink cartridges depending on the markers

you use and how intense you want your spray to be.

More pieces sprayed on a different brand and weight of 

watercolor paper, the effect was a bit different.

I used two colors on some of these.

I die cut the word "hello" and adhered it over a strip

of the sprayed paper then glued it to a card base

for a simple card. 

Same idea as above, only using a die cut branch and heat embossed "noel"

Whew..........

What a month July was here on my blog: a different digi scrap project and kit featured each day!
It was a lot of work - and fun.

I did this to try to help generate sales for the Kimeric Kreations store at the digichick.com. Kim, the store owner and designer, passed away last month and now the website is closing down :(

Amid all of that digiscrapping and blogging, I was also working on several other projects. Many are for upcoming design team inspiration while others are personal projects, putting to use some long neglected bits and pieces I've accumulated. The photo above is a sort of sneak peek of some of them. I'll be sharing them in their entirety soon.

I was also making oodles of Christmas cards ! I'm now done with those, making more than what I need so I have a jump start on next year ;)  I will share them when the holidays get closer.

My massive photo album project has been put on hold. It's been several months since I've done anything more with that daunting task, but I did get a big dent put in it before I quit working on it!
I had the bookcase I made from an old chest of drawers moved upstairs recently, promptly filling it with more scrap booking/photo stuff. One day soon I'll get back to that project......

Beach Scrapbook Jar

The first of August -

time for a new challenge at 

Love To Craft Challenge blog !

This is an anything crafty goes

(so long as it is family friendly)

 challenge that lasts all month.

My project is a beach memory jar 

that I finally got around to making !

I've had the sand and shells in the 

large 4 sided jar for quite some time,

but I never got around to decorating it. 

I decided I'd make a mini "scrapbook page"

to insert rather than just a simple photograph.

I used a digital scrapbook kit to make my jar.

Those are not real shells hanging on the side,

just images from the kit printed on photo paper. 

At first glance they look real!

(Scrapbook kit used was

Everyday Stories The Beach by Kimeric Kreations,

but it is no longer available )

I punched a hole and added a metal eyelet to the tag

to run the twine through. I adhered lightweight 

chipboard to the back of the photo printed tag

first. The paper was too thin and kept wanting to curl.

The tag was the bottom 2 x 4 portion of the 4 x 6 print

I designed and had printed. The top portion is 

the 4 x 4 mini scrapbook page that is 

hanging inside the jar.

I created both portions separately then combined

them into one, resized to make a 4 x 6 print.

I placed the sea shell images

and the word stip on another 

4 x 6 print. These were created with

Photoshop Elements, the digital scrapbooking kit

and photo printed at a local store. 

After having the shells printed onto a piece of

photo paper, I trimmed them out with scissors.

I was originally going to add pop dots

behind the star fish for extra dimension

then decided not to because I was afraid

it would end up "warping" from humidity.

I could have taken the time to cut out chipboard

to back the photo paper with to make it more sturdy. 

I hung my photo about halfway across the jar.

I chose to do this because attaching it to the back

of the jar it was too far away to see well,

the glass was distorting the image.

I could have glued something such as strips

of chipboard to the back to poke down into the

sand to hold it in place, but decided against 

that becuase the real shells and drift inside

the jar were blocking the bottom portion of 

the mini scrapbook page.

Hanging it with fishing line helped

keep it just above the shells.

It's a neat floating effect, too!

This photo is to try to show you how I hung

the photo inside the jar using clear fishing line

and clear packing tape. It is taped inside the

"neck" of the jar, suspending the photo 

while allowing the lid to still fit on the jar. 

I did back the photo with a piece of lightweight 

chipboard because it kept curling.

So there you have it, a sort of scrapbook jar.
